How it worksThe knowledge
behind the work.
A few examples to explore.
Practice knowledge
Firm-authored review frameworks and checklists explaining how a contract is assessed.
Matter workflows
Owned procedures, research methods and handover guides that capture how a task is completed.
Templates & training
Purpose-built staff training and authorised examples showing legal reasoning in practice.
Keep client confidence at the centre.
Do not send client files, privileged advice or confidential correspondence with an initial enquiry. For SRA-regulated firms, client affairs must remain confidential unless disclosure is legally required or permitted, or the client consents. Privilege and contractual restrictions also need review; an NDA is not permission to disclose.
SRA guidance on client confidentialityYour questions.
Answered.
Can a law firm license its data to AI developers?
There may be a suitable opportunity for materials the firm owns and is authorised to share. It depends on the proposed use, buyer interest and a review of confidentiality, privilege, intellectual-property rights and any other restrictions.
Does anonymising a matter file make it suitable?
Not automatically. Removing client names may leave identifying facts, confidential information or privileged material. A record needs a proper review before it can be considered for licensing.
Do you need access to our practice-management system?
No system access or document upload is required to start. Describe the types of firm-owned materials you have and the relevant permissions. Any later sample or export would need an agreed scope.
Is a non-exclusive licence possible?
Exclusivity is a term to negotiate, not an assumption. The agreement should define the permitted material, users, uses, duration and payment before anything is licensed.
